The Story Behind Gordita Bonita Pottery

Gordita Bonita Pottery started after I decided that life was too short to be in a job that made me unhappy. After doing a little bit of soul searching I ended up asking 'what makes me happy?' and the answer was simple, pottery.

I haven't been doing this very long, in fact I only started making pottery at the beginning of 2023, I was incredibly lucky to receive a gift of a 6 week pottery workshop and loved it so much, I continued - haven't stopped yet!

When I decided to pursue pottery as more than just a hobby, I thought 'I'm going to give it my all'. So here we are, I am making my wobbly pieces and absolutely loving it. I am so grateful that I am able to go on this venture and hopefully bring a little bit of my happiness to your home too.

Meet the Maker

Hello! My name is Chloe, and a massive thank you if you've come this far!

I started pottery quite recently and fell in love with the craft, I've always been a creative person but due to growing up my creative side sort of took a back seat.

When I was kindly gifted a pottery course it was a wonderful rediscovery to be able to reconnect with art and noticed just how much I had missed this part of me.

I feel so grateful and incredibly lucky to have found something that makes me so happy, I owe it to myself to try my hardest and I hope that what I make brings a smile to your face as much as I have enjoyed making it.

Please feel free to get in touch and ask any questions or even if you just fancy a chat!

What does it all mean?

Gordita Bonita - Plump Darling

Gordita Bonita is Spanish, roughly meaning plump darling

You might be thinking, why on earth? Well, let me explain...

When I was 18, I learnt Spanish in Chile and continued learning on through university, which lead me to live in Spain. I love being able to communicate with a whole other world and wanted to be able to bring a little bit of one of my other passions into my business.

Second, is the meaning behind this, in Latin America and Spain I only ever encountered people using this phrase as a term of endearment and affection. It was never spoken with malice. A term that was used for anyone with a bit of chunk and to be told they were beautiful. I love the meaning behind this, it doesn't matter what we look like, we are all beautiful!

Which leads me on to the most important reason why I've named my business 'chunky and beautiful'. This phrase is for all those who come in different shapes and sizes. I feel like this term of affection is for the ladies with lumps and bumps who can still rock it! I like to think my pottery reflects that, perfectly imperfect, wobbles and all.
